(EDITED) Short Story Review: When The Last Flower Blooms - ER-CENTRAL

 Hello readers! It's Prisya. Okay, just like I said yesterday, I would only write another blog whenever I’m in the right mood. And yup, here we are! After reviewing a novel last time, this time we’re moving on to a short story. Compared to a novel, a short story is definitely lighter to read and more beginners friendly. When it comes to finding one to read, I think searching for short stories online isn’t too difficult at all. Many website that provide a lot of short story.
~~~
Guys, how are you doing? Are you all in good condition, or maybe some of you are currently fighting against an illness? I sincerely hope that every one of you is always in the best condition. For me personally, being healthy is something I never take for granted. As someone who is fortunate enough to wake up every day without having to worry about a serious disease, I truly feel grateful to God for giving me the priceless gift of health. Sometimes, we don’t realize how valuable it is until we imagine losing it. I honestly can’t image myself being diagnosed with a deadly illness, it must be so frightening and exhausting. Through the short story I’ve just read, I was able to catch a glimpse of what it feels like to live in such a the struggle, the despair, and at the same time, the quiet courage of someone who refuses to give up. Reading it really opened my eyes to the importance of gratitude and reminded me that health is something we should always protect.
Before we start to review, I’m going to introduce you to the website I use to read short stories in English, which is called ER-CENTRAL. This site is super easy to access for everyone, and it provides a wide range of reading texts such as fiction, non fiction, biographies, and many more.
On this website, I’ve chosen one fiction drama short story that I find very interesting, titled “When The Last Flower Blooms.” -by Darinsclass. The pacing is fast because in the first of story, the main character enters the hospital as a patient. The main character’s name is never mentioned by the writer, probably because the story is told from the first person point of view and she's a realistic character. To make it easier for me to share the story with you, how about we call her Alice? All of you must be agree:D.
(sorry the link of this short story can't be copied)
Alice is an adopted child of her parents. One day, after coming home from school, Alice started to feel unwell, so she decided to go see a doctor. When she got there, the doctor realized that her condition was quite serious, so he decided to run a blood test. The result was shocking, Alice was diagnosed with a rare and deadly illness called Flower Disease. This disease is very unique and terrifying at the same time because a flower grows inside her body, feeding off her nutrients little by little, and the worst part is if that once the last flower fully blooms, it marks the end of her life and very few cases ever survive.
At the beginning of her diagnosis, Alice still had the spirit to fight and tried to stay positive and strong, but there is time when Alice feel hopeless and resigned to her fate. She experiences several comas along the way. Actually, it's not the ending of this story, will the last flower bloom on Alice body?
Sometimes happiness is not about big achievements, but about simple things like laughing with friends, spending time with family, or just have a healthy body. From Alice’s story, I realize that even when life gets difficult, we can still choose to be grateful and find peace. So let’s keep fighting, stay healthy, and chill every second we are have. Also don't forget to always pray.💗✨️
HUHUHUUUU I HATE THIS ENDING SO MUCH. When I first read it, I honestly thought Alice would be like my expectation but it turned out she didn’t. The plot of this story is truly amazing because it successfully plays with the reader’s emotions, pulling them back and forth between hope and despair. The use of the first person point of view also made me feel like I was experiencing everything alongside Alice, which made it even more emotional for me. But to be honest, every page is too long winded so maybe it can be shortened because this is a short story so it doesn't matter.
So, what’s your opinion guys? How would you feel if you were in Alice position knowing that you had a deadly disease that is almost impossible to cure? If it were me, I think I would remaining days of my life, I would choose to be happy and let go of all my burdens (I'm too resigned😭). But as long as I still have support from family and friends, I will remain calm.
Alright, we’ve reached the end. Yesterday we reviewed a romance novel Dilan 1990, and now we’ve moved to a short story with unexpected ending. My feelings are definitely mixed up inuright now :( This story is very recomended to people who like mixed their emotion. Eeeee honestly I still can't accept the ending. Hmmmmm.. But from this story, the lesson we can take is to always keep fighting against any illness, no matter what. And most importantly, use the rest of your life to find happiness, and always remember that every human being will eventually face their destiny.
EY PLEASE STAY TUNE FOR MY NEXT BLOG! Thank you for reading until this part. Love y'all💋
(sorry because there was a lot of spoiler before, now I write it better)😉
