Hello readers! it's Prisya. Huh here we go again. After not meeting in a week, we comeback with a new topic. That's "Novel Review". Wich do you prefer guys, read a novel or watching a movie? if you're like both of them, I'll recomend to you Dilan 1990. This novel written in 2014 and after 4 years, they make its film in 2018. of course this story is very interesting, that's why I chose it. Beside its novel, their film also booming at that time too. A lot of youth are relate to this story especially Gen Milenial because its time background in 1990. When there are no internet, WhatsApp, Instagram or even TikTok, people in that time use payphone for communication with their couple. And Yep, I think the introduction is to long, let's continue to the review!
Dilan: Dia adalah Dilanku tahun 1990, written by Pidi Baiq. Have you ever heard of this romance novel? Well, I first read it when I was in junior high school. The story has a very unique background, which is the city of Bandung in the year 1990. Because it is set in the 1990s, the novel gives of a nostalgic vibe that allows readers to really feel the atmosphere and the kind of teenage love stories that happened during those times. The author presents the narration in a style that feels almost like a personal “confession” or someone casually telling their own story. That is why, when reading this novel, the flow feels smooth and the tone feels warm and familiar, almost as if the writer is speaking directly to the reader.

Dilan and Milea are the main characters in this novel. Dilan, a student of SMA Negeri 20 Bandung, is well known as the leader of a motorcycle gang, and he eventually falls in love with Milea, a transfer student from Jakarta. Dilan’s funny, humorous, and surprising romantic gestures make Milea fall for him. In my opinion, the most memorable moment is when Dilan gives Milea a TTS and said "Iqro Milea!" and the funny ways is that he had already filled in, saying it was so that Milea would not get a headache trying to find the answers by herself. Sometimes, love can be expressed in the simple ways.

In every story, things do not always go smoothly. There are times when Dilan and Milea argue, especially because Dilan is a member of a motorcycle gang, which of course comes with many risks. Milea repeatedly warns Dilan to leave the gang, but with Dilan’s stubborn personality, it is not easy for him to listen to her advice. Also, there is a time when dilan think Milea was Nandan's girlfriend but it just misunderstand. Honetsly Nandan has a feeling with milea, but Milea always choose Dilan even she don't like delinquent boy.

AJSGKAJSJKA THIS PICTURE IS ALSO MY FAVOURITE PART! After there are a conflict, at the ending, Dilan and Milea officially become a couple. This moment is portrayed in a very funny way when they create their own version of a “Proclamation Text.” The scene happens right after Dilan gets into a fight with Anhar, who had hit Milea. Following such a tense and dramatic situation, the story closes with a light hearted and happy ending that surely pleases readers who love romance with a cheerful twist. What makes it even more amusing is how Dilan stamps the “Proclamation Text” with a postage stamp, as if to make it official and binding implying that there would be consequences if either of them broke the agreement.
Maybe if Pidi Baiq, the author, had never published this novel, I would never have imagined that someone could give a crossword puzzle book already filled in as a gift, or create a “Proclamation Text” to officially mark a relationship, or even say such poetic words like Dilan did. Compared to the dating style of teenagers today, I think Dilan might actually be better. Not only did he rely on phone calls, but he also had the courage to visit Milea at her house. Unlike most teenagers nowadays, who often keep their relationships limited to WhatsApp chats.🙄
In my opinion, the story in this novel can really make readers smile to themselves. It starts from Dilan’s funny ways of expressing love, the unique writing style of Pidi Baiq, and even the imagination that makes us feel as if we are the main character ourselves hahaha. Beyond just enjoying the plot, whenever I recall this novel, it feels like going back to the very first time I read it, which was during junior high school. I realize that reading a book like this in the past and then rereading or remembering it in the present brings such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia.
YAAAAAAA Back then, I used to recommend this book to many of my friends because the story was interesting and very relatable for teenagers. However, on the other hand, sometimes Dilan’s words feel a bit cringeworthy to read maybe because now I’ve grown older. Overall though, this story is really worth reading for anyone who enjoys teenage love stories. The relaxed plot and minimal conflict make it easy to follow and enjoy. If I were given the choice, I think I would love to experience a youth like the one portrayed in Dilan’s story.
How about you? Do you think Dilan is a truly romantic figure, or rather a bit cringe? And which one would you choose, a guy like Dilan who comes with many risks because of his motorcycle gang, or a more ordinary safe kind of guy? Share your opinion below! :3
AH! sadly we’ve now reached the end of this blog. But don't worry, if i'am still in a mood to write a blog, maybe I'll review one of short story, with notes 'still in a mood':3. Okay let's close this sharing sesion, as Dilan once said "Jangan rindu, berat, kamu ga akan kuat, biar aku saja." JAHAHAHAH SEE YOU ON THE NEXT BLOG.
